We would like to recognize Janet Sommovigo for her many contributions to MPA. Janet comes from a long line of Sommovigo family volunteers and supporters. She serves as an office assistant and in this role, her responsibilities have included direct mailings, document shredding and assisting at the Youth Art Show Openings and MPAartfest. We thank Janet for more than three years of service to MPA and look forward to her continued volunteering.

About MPA

McLean Project for the Arts
McLean, VA, United States
MPA is a non-profit visual arts center founded in 1962 to exhibit the work of emerging and established regional artists. The mission of McLean Project for the Arts is to exhibit the work of emerging and established artists from the mid-Atlantic region; to promote public awareness and understanding of the concepts of contemporary art; and to offer instruction and education in the visual arts. In addition to its program of high quality, professionally-curated art exhibitions, MPA presents special traveling exhibitions from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. MPA/Corcoran, an educational partnership, offers art classes for children and adults taught by instructors from the Corcoran College of Art + Design. MPA also presents the Art Reach program for area schools, gallery talks, and day trips to area museums and galleries. All works of art exhibited at MPA are for sale unless otherwise noted.

Welcome to MPA's New Online Newsletter

by McLean Project for the Arts

Welcome to MPAartnews!

In an effort to be “green” (and to trim our budget), we have made the decision to stop printing and mailing our newsletter.  But, we hope that you will enjoy our new quarterly online version—it will feature the latest happenings at McLean Project for the Arts with lots of pictures and with the occasional video clip—it’s a more interactive way to learn what’s new at MPA.*

Thanks to your generous donations and our ongoing cost-cutting measures, MPA continues to weather the economic storm.  Recently, the MPA Spring Benefit reached its fundraising goal of $90,000 to support MPA’s annual expenses for its exhibitions and educational programs!  We are truly grateful to all who contributed and to those who braved the damp, cold evening to come and celebrate with us. We thank Windows Catering Company too for their spectacular service and delicious food.  Read more in the article below and view some great pictures from the evening, with special thanks to Jennifer Berman of Ashton Imaging for donating her time and talent.  There is also a link to her site if you’d like to see or purchase the pictures.

We have good news about MPAartfest 2010 coming to McLean Central Park on October 3rd:  Supervisor John Foust and his wife Marilyn have agreed to serve as Honorary Co-Chairs of the event, and the McLean Community Foundation is our sponsor for the Children’s ArtWalk at MPAartfest again this year.

Read all about it here.  I hope you enjoy our first edition of MPAartnews!
